I have been meaning to type up this blog post for weeks but I tell you, trying to juggle a full time job and a family is no joke. Especially when your daughter decides to break your SD card and the keyboard stops working.

Anyway, I hope you are all well and enjoyed your new year celebrations. I am so excited with all I have planned for my blog and channel this year because; it's all about you guys.

This last week, I've just been spending time reflecting on where I was this time last year and it wasn't a pretty place at all. Around this time is when I was in the thick of my eczema issues, and at times I felt so incredibly overwhelmed, I wished I would go to sleep and just not wake up. It was truly unbearable, and since then so many of you have messaged and emailed me describing that very same situation.

As I said before, I love fashion and beauty. Those are definitely my passions, but my desire this year is to help as many of you overcome this skin disease like I did.

One of the main questions you guys have asked for and contacted me about is, "What cream, if not prescription creams, do I use for my eczema,"?

Before I go into detail with the cream I do use, I'll just touch upon briefly why I advise you to stay away from conventional creams in the shops as well as the ones that GP's and dermatologists recommend.

The main ingredients in majority of these creams is petroleum and it comes in many different forms. It may be labelled as petroleum or parrafin.

These are the english dictionary definitions of both.

Parrafin: a flammable, whitish, translucent, waxy solid consisting of a mixture of saturated hydrocarbons, obtained by distillation from petroleum or shale and used in candles, cosmetics, polishes, and sealing and waterproofing compounds.

Petroleum: a liquid mixture of hydrocarbons which is present in suitable rock strata and can be extracted and refined to produce fuels including petrol, paraffin, and diesel oil; oil.

Majority of the photos that come up on google when you search these ingredients are black tar, petrol and brands of petrol distributors. Does this resemble any sort of healing ingredient to you? This is the same petroleum that you're recommended to use gloves for when filling up your car; and yet they're processing this into creams to be used on the skin.

Let's step into science a bit here and explain why the logic of putting petroleum on a supposed dry skin condition doesn't make any sense.

eczema healing cream

"When I came to realise all of these things,

it was no wonder that years and years of these creams didn't change my condition.

I didn't want a cream that just felt good at the time.

I wanted complete regeneration and healing,"

Petroleum is a moisture repellent, hence why one of the functions and uses of it is to waterproof things. If I slather petroleum jelly or 'Vaseline' onto my skin and run water on top of it, that water will just run straight off. Our skin, our hair and our bodies in general all need moisture. Water, in fact, makes up roughly 60% of the body.

Now some of you may say, you need to put water on the skin before you use it so it 'locks' the moisture in but in fact the petroleum doesn't actually do anything, not to mention the vast amount of chemicals that it consists of that your body is exposed to. I've explained this in more detail below.

1.

The skin is unable to utilise the petroleum jelly or break it down, so it literally sits on the skin as a barrier until it wears off. In the meantime, it's not allowing the skin to breathe or absorb any moisture that the skin desperately needs; especially when you have eczema. In using these creams you're prohibiting the body from gaining moisture and allowing the harmful chemicals to seep through the cracks and openings that eczema creates. This ultimately causes the damage to the under layers of your skin even worse.

2.

Because the petroleum creates a barrier on the skin, it blocks the skins ability to breathe and absorb nutrients. This causes the body to draw moisture from inside the body to try and repair which leads to a breakdown in collagen. This, as you know, is an essential nutrient needed by the skin to stay supple and healthy. Without it, the skin will only deteriorate even more.

3.

Petroleum contains chemicals called xenoestrogens which have been linked to estrogen dominance. This causes an imbalance in the body's natural use and function of estrogen which can lead to infertility, mentrual problems, allergies as well as other auto immune diseases.

When I came to realise all of these things, it was no wonder that years and years of these creams didn't help the condition of my skin. I don't want to use a cream that just feels good at the time. I want a cream that will help aid regeneration and healing.

lush dream cream

Long before my eczema became chronic and covered my body, I had already made the transition of changing all of my products to natural and/or organic alternatives. For my skin I was using raw Shea Butter or Coconut Oil and if I had time on my hands I would blend a mixture of different creams to form a cream of my own.

I was still using a mix of these creams in the beginning but I found that they weren't really moisturising my skin as much as I wanted it to. The shea butter worked wonders but I found it to thick at times. I needed something a bit finer.

I have been documenting most of my journey on my social media, and it was actually an old friend of mine that saw one of my posts that recommended dream cream to me. At first I was super skeptical as LUSH, to me, was that smelly artificial shop that I couldn't stand the scent of every time I walked past it.

Now that I think about it, it actually smells like that because of the range of essential oils they use in their product.

Anyway, she told me that she had read raving reviews about dream cream healing people with eczema, so I did some investigating and found all these reviews myself. There were so many, I thought this had to be worth a try.

I went into the store and also found that there are two versions of the same cream. The original uses a lot of preservatives whilst the 'self preserving' version does what it says on the tin and preserves itself, due to the extra amount of oil used in it. That was a no brainer for me, so that was the one that I bought and started to use.

Before I go any further, I do want to highlight that even the self preserving version uses a chemical ingredient called Triethanolamine or TEA. If you do some quick research on this. you will find that this ingredient is known to be damaging to an extent, but my mindset at the time was that there is barely anything out there, unless you make it yourself, that doesn't contain some sort of chemical. As long as I vastly reduce my toxicity exposure, I'm generally OK with using the cream because all the other ingredients that make it up are natural and very beneficial. The reality is, in this world we live in now, it is impossible to avoid every chemical and toxin. It's about knowing which ones to avoid and avoiding them wherever necessary.

I am going to do a youtube video explaining this really soon as it's quite an extensive topic to go in to but I've already begun experimenting with the ingredients in order to make my own dream cream. As soon as I figure this out I will share it with you.

"This is going to be a bit of a contradiction to my title,

but the reality is, a healing cream for eczema doesn't exist.

You have to heal the body from the inside

in order to transform the outside,"

Within a week or two of me using this cream I began to feel and see a massive difference. Prior to me using it, my skin was incredibly dry and unbearable to touch. Shortly after, it began to smooth out with the roughness of my skin gently fading away. The flaking also reduced dramatically. Honestly, nothing I had used prior to this gave me this much relief that was actually visible. Even my husband noticed it, and I hadn't told him really that I had changed anything. I believe it is the oat milk base in the cream which has this effect as the properties found in oats are very calming for the skin. This is also why oat baths are recommended for people with eczema.

One thing I will stress though, is that whilst using the cream, I was on a very strict diet of plant based eating with majority raw foods. I think it was a combination of tackling my diet and using the cream together that brought about the relief, not the cream on it's own.

This is going to be a bit of a contradiction to my title, but the reality is, a healing cream for eczema doesn't exist. You have to heal the body from the inside in order to transform the outside.

The 'healing cream' is an aid not a solution.

Anyway, after using the cream once or twice, it wouldn't have been like me at all if I didn't make any modifications to it. I did a bit of research into the most healing oils for eczema and added them to the cream.

When I did this, it literally changed my skin almost overnight. The skin become so smooth it was like a miracle and not only that the cream didn't just absorb but it actually kept my skin supple and moisturised for a longer period of time. When I first started using the cream, I was using it twice a day, now I was only using it once.

I'm trying to avoid typing a long blog post, as I always do, so I will list the ingredients and the quantities to add to your cream depending on the size with links that you can read in your own time in regards to the healing properties and benefits of each one.

I really hope you find this cream as amazing as I did. Buying the oils initially is quite expensive but it does last for quite a long time.

Please be sure to let me know how you find it if you do decide to use it. There are a few people who have contacted me, and I've given this to and so far, majority of them have loved it.

As I said before, do give it time. It isn't a miracle cream but an aid. Use it to aid healing but focus on healing the inside of your body and the rest will follow.

One of the key properties to all or most of these oils are their anti-inflammatory and antiseptic benefits. Eczema is an inflammation of the body and the skin but not only that it is also a condition that exposes you to infection because the skin is broken. These oils will help keep infections at bay and heal the skin from deep inside to the outer layers.

    Hi

If you could only choose the black seed oil or moringa which one would you go for?

Also how long did one tub of 240gms Dream Cream last you?

By the way your skin looks beautiful.

      Hiya,

I would choose black seed oil tbh but that’s because I think it had more benefits to it.

Also the small dream cream lasted between two weeks to a month. It really depends.

and Thank you for the compliment!

Hi, thank you so much for sharing. I’m not even sure i have eczema but my drs think so. So far steroid only works for a few days, last couple of days I tried a simple (homemade) shea butter, coconut oil and tea tree oil balm which seems to be working.

With the essential oils and seed oils you’ve recommended do they only work with eczema or can they heal other rashes? I’m trying to see if it targets skin inflammation in general or not.

Again thanks for sharing, so glad I came across your insta!

Hey, your website is very informative and I am going to start my plant diet through ingredients you have used on your website and social media and learn that way.

I just wanted to ask, I’m just about to order Lush Dream Cream SP but even that one has perfume in the ingredients list. Is that artificial perfume as I real can’t use perfume on my skin.

You are a beautiful person inside out and your skin is glowing.

Hi Dee, thank you so much for your feedback I really appreciate it!

So glad you’re taking the plunge towards changing your diet!.

Also, If you’re sensitive to perfume I wouldn’t use it. I would recommend instead you using evolve beauty creams. One is called the african orange and the other is 360 body contour. x

Thanks for the article! I’ve been doing some research on the best moisturizers for eczema and Dream Cream popped up a few times. At this point, I’m down to try just about anything but I do have one question. Did your skin revert back or did you seen any changes once you stopped using the cream?

    Love the website!

    Thanks!

      Hiiya,

My skin didn’t revert back because I maintained by diet and general skin care routine and I always planned to stop using it because of the preservatives in it; but see how it goes. Make sure it’s the self-preserving version. xx

Hi Joanne, you skin transformation is such an inspiration, worth every penny! March 17, 2022 / 10:52 am

hii uche. thank you i really appreciate your kind words.

i mixed all together at the same time but try half of the essential oil measurements and do a patch test first to check if your skin is ok to handle it x
