THE MEANING OF WELLNESS AND HOLISTIC WELLBEING

It doesn't take long after you meet me to realise what I'm passionate about. Health is everything to me; not in an obsessive kind of way but just because I understand that when you lose health it affects every single area of your life.

Something that seems so 'insignificant' like my skin being covered in eczema was able to stop me from walking, sleeping, showering and bathing without discomfort. Personally - I will never take my health for granted again.

Over the last three years of my journey, I've learnt so so much it's hard to even put into words; but in this blog post I'm willing to try.

One thing I will say is that I used to believe that to be well is to be free from sickness. When in actual fact, to be well means to be whole. Not just in body, but in mind, spirit and soul.

In herbal medicine and the history of herbal medicine, it was understood by those practising with herbs that they had to treat patients with a holistic approach. Although the use of herbs themselves is considered holistic, it is in fact the way in which these herbs are applied which make them truly holistic.

For example; you can administer or prescribe a herbal remedy for a symptom but rather than do that, it is more important to treat the whole body.

It is also important to take into account the story behind the illness.

For example; when I was going through my eczema issues, I would go to the GP and they would prescribe me topical steroids to treat the symptoms without ever acknowledging the root cause or what it could be.

At the time my skin went crazy, I had just had two babies back to back. [stress] Whilst I was in labour I was on intravenous antibiotics [the gut]. I was also living in a flat with a mouldy environment [pathogens]; not to mention the lack of sleep from having a newborn and a toddler [more stress]. I also discovered that I had a hole in my mercury filling [heavy metal toxicity]. The combination of all this was a disaster. Not to mention my mental and emotional state which also took a massive toll.

It was only a matter of time before my skin would begin to reveal the dysfunction and imbalance going on inside of my body and mind.

To treat just the skin; as you already know was a mistake, because once I began to use the steroids prescribed, the eczema resurfaced in places I had never had it before. It was like my body was just screaming at me to pay attention; and I thank GOD I did because if I had continued to listen to the dermatologists and doctors I was seeing I would never have made it here.

Single handedly, with a desperation to get to the root cause of my issues; I changed my diet [the gut], got my rotten tooth removed [eliminated some of the heavy metal toxicity], eventually moved out of my flat [eliminated the mouldy environment], exercised and began to express how I was feeling inside [mental wellbeing].

Usually, when people contact me for help with their eczema, the first thing they ask is "What product did you use to get rid of it", which is completely understandable but also a shame because that's how our mind has been conditioned. If you have a skin issue; just put a cream on it, when in reality there can be so may factors at play.

My main goal as I get back into the swing of writing blogs and making youtube videos is to show you how to incorporate healing into every aspect of our bodies; not just the skin.

Also; being able to give people the motivation to keep going because healing eczema naturally is no easy feat.

One other thing I wanted to mention was that when my skin healed or began to heal; my other auto immune condition and ailments I had already been diagnosed with completely disappeared.

I had been diagnosed as having Hashimoto's disease in 2014, also known as a hyper-thyroid. I haven't had a relapse since 2015. My thyroid functions completely fine without any treatment or medication.

I had also been found to have had two fibroids in my womb in 2015 as well. These fibroids were so big that they caused me severe pain during my pregnancies that left me in hospital for almost a week. Those fibroids today are completely gone.

For me; this is just further and solid proof that when you really begin to take care of your body; your entire body is able to heal itself.

I'm so excited to bring you all the things I've learned during my process, as well as all the new things I've learned during my time away.

If you're reading this and you're going through it right now, rest assured that it won't always be this way. Change your mindset first and the rest will be sure to follow.

Hi Jo, I feel like your experience with ezcema is my story. Only I have not been as disciplined and focussed like you. I’m back in the same position a year later struggling with my eczema. I am a complete mess. But, rewatching your videos and reading your blog has reminded me that I can resolve this m0y self with Christ at the helm and don’t need to hang around to wait for another month to see a determatologist. Thanks😇🙏
